EDM Music Conventions

Hi!
EDM music videos don’t tend to have many codes and conventions which allows more freedom when filming. However, they do tend to all have love and sexual scenes which can show me that EDM may appeal to a younger generation (16-25). The videos tend to have clubbing scenes with women with minimal clothing, dancing and having fun. The atmosphere portrayed always seems to be wild and crazy and the people in the video always look like they are having the best time of their lives. The genre is a dance genre which relates back to why there would be lots of people dancing in clubs or wherever they are filming. The artist of the song tends to not feature in the music video which leads me to believe that the music videos are often narratives and the music video does not link to the lyrics.

Calvin Harris’ song, How Deep Is Your Love, follows the trend of EDM music conventions that I have listed above. The photo for the YouTube clip shows a half-naked woman in a pool which already shows me that this particular song follows the conventions of EDM. One of Harris’ other songs, Summer, shows us again that he conforms to the conventions of EDM music videos. I have taken a screen shot of the music video right at the start of the video (16 seconds in) and the shot is of a woman in erotic lingerie peering over a balcony;

This definitely shows me that the music video conforms to the conventions of the EDM music genre.

Changing our idea

Hi,

We decided to change our genre to EDM as we thought that the music video would be better than what we would have created with the Indie Rock genre. We thought that we would enjoy creating an EDM music video as well as it is a genre that we all enjoy listening to as a group. The song that we decided to do was 'Pursuit of Happiness' from the film Project X. As we changed the song, we had to add more documents. I was in charge of the questionnaire and the EDM music conventions.
