Evaluation Video

Hi!

For our evaluation, questions 1,2,and 3, we chose to create a news recording explaining all of the questions in a creative way. We hope you enjoy watching, and question 4 can be found on the Prezi link!

Location Rece

Hi!

A location is a very important aspect of planning for a music video as it is used to research and locate where the video is going to be made. Because of the nature of our music video, and because it is being filmed in a club, we have chosen to film the video in a club in Milton Keynes, located at 2 Watling St, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire MK2 2BS, called Pink Punters, around a 20 minute drive from the team.

This is what the club looks like from the outside. It has 3 floors inside and an outside bar for smoking.

This is the club from Google Earth, and shows the side of the club which you see from the road.

This is a birds eye view of the club and shows the clubs car park. This was useful for the team because it gave us safe and accessible parking for my car, which we filmed in.

Thanks!

Camera Shots

Hi!

During the pre production stage of the music video,  it is also very important to create a camera shot plan. This will help when filming the video because we will have a direction of which shots to include in the video, and will reduce the chance of us missing out any important shots which could effect the fluidity of the video. I also wrote out a plan of what to include in the video, to give us a clear direction and to write and plan all of our thoughts about what we want to incorporate in the video.

Thanks!

Similar Genre Analysis

Hi!

The genre of our new song is 'Electronic House'. I have done some research into similar songs of this genre and watched these music videos as inspiration and ideas for how to do our video and the aspects we should think about including. The songs I researched into for this was 'I Took A Pill In Ibiza' by Mike Posner, because this music video was filmed in a club which was what our idea for our song is. Therefore, by looking at this video, I got a lot of ideas for when I was planning the video and the kind of things I should include. Below, I will include an analysis of the music video.

Another song and music video I looked at for our song was Rinse and Repeat by Riton. This video was quite different, it was still in a club, but it featured no movement in the club like what we wanted to include; the main singer was just sat at a table for the video. I will include an analysis of this as well.

I also looked at the video of 'Stay High' by Tovlo. This is another music video of the same genre and another video filmed in a club. By looking at all of these videos, I was given an insight and ideas of how to film the video inside of a club and different kinds of camera angles I should be using. This will also be analysed below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foE1mO2yM04&feature=youtu.be

The video starts off in a  low lit bathroom representing the club atmosphere. It features close up camera shots and mid shots of a man looking into the mirror and taking a pill which can be assumed to be some kind of ecstasy as he then is shown looking into the mirror and hallucinating, seeing himself with a oversized head. These feature blurring editing to represent the blurring of him falling into the hallucination.

It then switches to filming him in a club. This transition is a cut, from two contrasting scenes to make it snappy and fit the club environment. It is again low lit but this time it is much darker, and has more of a red lighting. We used a lot of this lighting in our music video as it really represents a club environment. It features him standing in the middle of people dancing around him, which we integrated into our video by having the main characters dancing, but with numerous people around her. This is put into slow motion, which we also include because it helps to show the pace of the night going and again follows the club stereotype. It then switches through another cut edit to the character walking through the crowd of people. We also include this as it looks powerful. The flashing, changing colours included here is also something we included to use because this shows the typical club environment and lighting. There is also a lot of mine-en-scene of props such as alcoholic drinks. We chose to definitely use these because this shows the characters drinking and helps to build the concept of the video. The clips of people dancing in the club is repeated through the song which is also something we wanted to include. This shows the alcohol taking effects on the characters as everything is being repeated.

This video begins with a tracking shot and it is focused on filming the character as she moves through the club. This is a mid shot and it focuses on her face and films how she changes throughout the night which shows the alcohol effecting her as the night goes on. The music video shows the club around her and how all of the different people are acting. We followed this by filming the crowds in the club because it showed the different people in the club and all of the different ways they are acting. Slow motion is also used in this video to show time moving around her and to reiterate how drunk she is; which is something we also chose to use in our video.

There is also numerous shots of her consuming alcohol throughout the video. This is another thing we included; we included shots  of the characters buying and downing drinks. This reiterates them being in a club and also as it is in the middle or beginning of the video helps continuity to show their state at the end as they keep on drinking.

The video also shows her change in make up as the night ends. Her make up at the beginning of the video is very neat and then at the end its all messed up to show the effects of the night out and to also mirror and show her fun. We used this idea by filming one of the characters eyes at the start of the video, and then the change of them by the end of the video.

This is the actual music video of the song, so watching and analysing this was very effective for us as it inspired us and showed us exactly what was done in the real video. The video is a clip taken from the film Project X. The music video begins with a close up shot of a girl dancing. We have used this in our video by filming lots of shots of Amy dancing close up. The girl is actually looking at the camera in this music video but we decided against doing this because this would wanted the audience to feel like they were watching the night instead of feeling like they were part of it. The video switches through different colours which is a consistent theme in electronic house videos to represent the club atmosphere. It films a lot of scenes involving people jumping around which is also what appears in the other videos we analysed. We also used this to show the club environment and make the audience more imaginative when watching the video so they feel like they are watching a real night out.

The video also features lots of slow motion scenes which is something we also used because this shows how effected they are by the alcohol and the disorientation of the characters. This music video also used lots of focusing on alcoholic drinks. We copied this idea through the close up shot and slow motion editing of the girls pouring out and drinking shots.

This video features lot's of quick shots to represent the quick moving atmosphere of the club and keeps up with the fast pacing pace of the music. It also puts the audience on edge because of the tension building up. We also have longer shots, around 2-3 seconds long, as the music is slower and is building up. When the music quickens so do the shots, they become around 0.3 seconds long to copy the flow of the song. After the climax of the song the shots then go back to being longer.

Using all of these videos as inspiration for our music video was very effective because it gave us ideas and angles for what to do in our film. We also boosted our confidence because by seeing what was used in professional videos, we knew that if we used them we were following this standard.

Evaluation Question 4

Hi!
http://prezi.com/fayvfxdtx9cj/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy

This is a prezi evaluation for question 4. This involves all information about the technologies we used during the planning, research, production and evaluation of our video. It also includes how we have improved since our AS product to our A2 video and what we learnt in terms of technologies.

Thanks!

DigiPak

Hi!

This is the digipak that we created for our music video. A digipak is the CD cover for a song release. We have created one to fit our song, and it also conformed with the second ancillary task, the poster, due to similarities in the dark lighting, gold writing to match Kat's eye make up and pictures of the girls dancing. We added in a 5 star review from the NME magazine, and also features 4 songs from the same album by Kid Cudi.

Thanks!

MUSIC VIDEO

Hi!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuWN8tpY1e8

This is the link to our final music video that we created. The original song is about 6 minutes long but we decided to cut it short. As you will see from our lyrics analysis we believe that the song is about a lifestyle of drinking, drugs, late nights and partying which is no longer desired by the man singing/rapping. We believe that he wants more from life than just living for the moment and we have tried to demonstrate this in our film. The video stops quite abruptly with Kat looking around her environment in confusion. This was done to signify the realisation that this party lifestyle is not something that can carry on forever, so with the shot of Kat looking around at the end was to show her taking a step back a reviewing her life and the sort of things she is doing and the people she is associating herself with. Also, as you will notice, Amy (the other girl that is in the video) is not in the final shot which demonstrates that she has not yet realised that this lifestyle cannot continue forever which is why Kat is on her own in the final shot.
