In the first half of the song, until
the 17h shot, the two characters will remain in the same clothing. By doing
this, it shows the repetitive, never ending circle of their arguing
relationship. Sophie’s make up then
changes at the 17th shot and they are both going to be in different clothing.
This mise-en-scene matches the outro of the songs lyrics because he is
repeating “I’m
a Pacifier.” We linked this to mean that he is
someone who can comfort Sophie and stop her from crying. Therefore, by them
changing their appearance, the mise-en-scene helps the video to match the song
and show their relationship is finally coming round and changing for the better
because he’s comforting her.
Sophie’s
outfit for the first part of the video is going to be dark clothing. By having
this dark clothing, it shows her as a mysterious character with a past behind
her; her mothers death. It also shows her in a sad, negative state and sets the
tone of the song. Jeans are also a piece of clothing popular for teenagers, and
this makes it more relatable for the audience. She is going to be wearing a
grey jumper, as this has a slight contrast against the black jeans and shows
the hope there is when the relationship turns round at the end of the song.
Her make up at the first half of the
music video is going to be relatively subtle. This shows again a boring,
repetitive routine.
This changes to more dark make up at the 17th shot when she
becomes emotional to show how much the argument is effecting her. This make up
is also why Jack seems to think she has spent the night with someone else and
the mise-en-scene helps the audience see why he may think this, she is in the
same clothes with rubbed, dark make up.
Jack is going to be wearing black jeans and a black coat.
This mise-en-scene shows him in the sad state he is in and portrays to the
audience they are both in a bad place and this is shining through their
clothing. He is going to be wearing jeans as well because this is again popular
in his age range. This makes the video more relatable and meets the target
audience.
