Hi!
We thought that the first paragraph is literally as blatant
as the songwriter made it out to be. It is about an individual who is living
the wild life not caring about the consequences of his actions. For example,
‘drivin’ drunk, I’m doin’ my thing’ shows us that he is driving under the influence of
alcohol which is against the law.
The second verse shows us a deeper meaning to the song. It
seems that the man singing is trying to convey a subliminal message that dreams
that maybe he wants more from life than just partying, breaking the law and
living for the moment. Perhaps he wants to sort his life out for the better but
is stuck in a revolving circle of parties, drugs, alcohol, late nights and
hangovers.
The third verse emphasises what we depicted about the
subliminal message in the second verse analysis. ‘You don’t really care about
the trials of tomorrow’ shows us that the man still thinks that there is more
to life than just partying, drinking and taking drugs. It suggests that too
many people live for the moment rather than thinking about what happens
tomorrow or whenever in the future.
The chorus which is repeated throughout the song after each
verse shows us that the man is looking for happiness through the party
lifestyle and intoxicating himself to do so. ‘Everything that shine ain’t
always gonna be gold’ leads us to believe that he sees the elicit products as a
the way to happiness (‘everything that shine’ but they aren’t (‘ain’t always
gonna be golden’). He has realised this though and is trying to better his life
for the future.
Thanks!
